Diet has a significant impact on the gut microbiome. Fresh foods, in general, are thought to lead to better diversity in the microbiome and better health outcomes compared to ultra-processed diets. Conversely, ultra-processed foods, particularly those containing grains, high levels of carbohydrates, and lectins, can perpetuate low-grade inflammation in the gut which could negatively affect the microbiome.
