Pancreatitis is a condition that results when the pancreas becomes inflamed. It can be acute (short-term) with a quick onset or chronic (long-term with repeated flare-ups). Chronic pancreatitis can occur as a result of damage to the pancreas from an episode of acute pancreatitis.
