Never leave your dog alone with a bone no matter how often your dog has eaten a bone. Depending on the size of the bone they may swallow it or a piece could snap off and get stuck.
If part of the bone is coming away or getting too small be prepared to take it away from your dog and give them a high-value treat in return to prevent resource guarding. Your dog may naturally walk away from the bone once they’ve done with it. If the bone looks in OK condition wrap it in a food bag and pop it in the fridge. Your dog can have another gnaw at it in a couple of days.
