Some bones are unsuitable for dogs. These include:
- Weight-bearing bones: Cow and pig leg bones are shaped to support the weight of the animal and are extremely hard. They could possibly break the teeth of a dog chewing on it
- Bone marrow rings: These are the big hollow bones that you often see in pet shops. The marrow is highly nutritious but once it has been ingested the ring can get stuck in the teeth of small dogs
and larger dogs can damage their teeth trying to bite it - Sharp edge bones: Bones that you get from a butchers or supermarket may be cut with a sharp blade leaving edges of bone sharp which may cut into your dog’s mouth
