Most healthy cats will be able to tolerate raw meat from the supermarket very well. However, please be aware that food sold for human consumption is sold with the assumption that it’s going to be cooked, so it doesn’t undergo the strict bacterial testing that raw pet food does. This means there is a higher risk of bacterial contamination. So, take extra care with hygiene and special care if you have a young kitten, an elderly cat, or one with an underlying health issue.
The best advice is to pop any meat from the supermarket or butcher in the freezer for a few days before giving it to your cat. This is to inhibit any bacterial growth while it’s being stored and to kill any parasites that may be present.
